"LIFE ISN'T ABOUT FINDING YOURSELF. LIFE IS ABOUT CREATING YOURSELF."
Welcome, shaken fella, and allow us to introduce ourselves. We are a lifestyle inspirational platform born out of love for (but not limited to) all things retro. You see, our fascination towards fashion and aesthetics goes way beyond the vintage rage. What's important to us is each individual person's voice. We curate rare and extraordinary finds, and create relevant and amazing content. We also make stuff, from time to time.
Our mission is to bring you unique, carefully hand-picked pieces and inspo that respond to our timeless need of expressing ourselves. We want to be a part of you standing out rather than blending in, whether it be with vintage or with remarkably modern items, with inspirational photos or with moving words. We believe that every person should live a life that is shaken, not stirred, and that’s why we are so focused on inspiring you in the process. Your life is a canvas on which you have complete artistic freedom.
So make yourself at home and, should you have any inquiries, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

TO VISITOR, WITH LOVE
Hello there! I'm Crista and I’m a 28-year-old artist. Let me tell you a little bit about myself and the vision which has filled me with the eagerness to create this special world of wonderful possibilities and present it to you; you who may unfold it and make it happen your own way, so that your unique, custom-made desires become facts and you get to enjoy the beautifully designed and carefully crafted life you have made for yourself.
RECONCILING CAREER AND HOBBY
In my case, my passion has always been storytelling and that’s why I’m also pursuing a career as a screenwriter. Having majored in Mass Communication with a specialization in Audiovisual Arts, I do admit to having a weakness for unspoken words -those which are whispered by objects and revealed through images-, and that's why photography plays a key role in this virtual space. I hold the belief that the clothes and objects we incorporate in our life have an important story to tell, and that we can share our adventures through them, as well, be it through film, pictures or undocumented experiences.
VINTAGE AND MODERN: THE BEAUTY IN BOTH
Ever since I was a little kid, the feeling that I belong to another era has always stuck with me. When I was six, my favorite band were The Archies, and my favorite movie, Grease. The charm of older times has always mesmerized me. Nonetheless, my fascination isn’t exclusively towards vintage. I have always been compelled to aesthetics, and that’s why the visual world is my platform and inspiration: photography, filmmaking and design, to name a few. I respect and admire modern works of art as much as I do antiques, and believe that new styles, means and techniques are just as worthy of appreciation.
When it comes to clothes, my background as a Costume Designer Assistant is noteworthy. Being the apprentice of renowned Mexican/Venezuelan Costume Designer and vintage connoisseur Valentina Martínez -who also owns a vintage business-, was a very enriching and fulfilling experience. With her, I worked in several projects, including music videos from Venezuelan bands Rawayana and Famasloop, and Valentina’s own short film “Llenas de Gracia” (which translates “Filled with Grace”). I then moved to the States and worked as a Showroom Coordinator and Stylist in Weddington Way, which was a start-up that made and sold bridesmaids and bridal dresses (now owned by Gap). After that, I moved on to work at Anthropologie as a Visual Merchandising Assistant, were I had the opportunity to fuse fashion and art in unexpected, magical ways. Currently, I'm a Personal Stylist at Stitch Fix (styling for both men and women), which gives me the opportunity to curate personalized outfits and make a meaningful impact on people's lives, on a more personal level.
WHERE ON THE MAP
You might be wondering what I was doing in Venezuela. You see, that was actually my home for the most part of my life, even though I was born in Texas and lived in Spain for a while, too. Right now, I’m back for good in the United States. I spent some time in Florida, then visited Philadelphia for a while, and now I’m living in sunny Palo Alto, California. So Shaken Magazine is California-based.
I am thrilled to embark on this new journey with you, and can’t wait to find out together what our different destinations as “shaken peeps” of the world will be!
